"Well, it may be that said society is already off the rails, and has simply not yet come to rest at the bottom of the canyon, and therefore the best 'moments' for the 'captive citizenry' may be when the power is sliding between one of the other of the two poles of dysfunctional politics...? "Voting, as best a vote for a possible respite during the brief span when one or the other of the poles of political dysfunction are futilely trying to retool...? "The 'best hope' being the brief periods of power sliding and tilting, before one or another variety of dysfunction can too thro thoroughly entrench itself...? "With the further possible interpretation that both political poles amount to a unified field of dysfunction, and a politically fore foreboding future...?"
